How to Care for Your Handmade Products

Storage • Patch Testing • Shelf Life
Handmade, botanical-rich products are living blends—crafted in small batches, with no harsh preservatives. With the right care, they stay fresh, potent, and safe to use. Here's how to protect your glow.
1. Store With Care
Treat your products like you would your food—natural, fresh, and sensitive to heat.
Do:
- Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and humidity
- Use clean, dry fingers or spatulas when scooping from jars
- Close lids tightly after each use
Don't:
- Leave products in hot bathrooms or near windows
- Introduce water into jars—it shortens shelf life
- Expose to direct sunlight (especially oils and creams)
Tip: In hot weather, store butters and creams in the fridge for added freshness.
2. Always Patch Test First
Natural doesn’t mean irritation-free for everyone. Your skin is unique.
How to patch test:
- Apply a small amount to the inside of your wrist or behind your ear
- Wait 24–48 hours
- Check for redness, itchiness, or any reaction
✅ If no reaction occurs, you’re good to go!
🚫 If irritation appears, discontinue use and consult if needed.
3. Know Your Shelf Life
Handmade products don’t last forever—because they’re not meant to.
Product Type |
Shelf Life |
Oils & Butters | 6–12 months |
Water-based Creams & Gels | 4–6 months |
Mists & Sprays | 3–6 months |
Powdered Masks & Scrubs | 8–12 months (dry) |
Look for the “best before” date on your label or product card.
If the scent, color, or texture changes noticeably, it's time to let it go.
